Video: The Gaslight Anthem – American Slang
Lately it seems like everybody I know is up my ass about how much the Gaslight Anthem sucks, almost as if I’m the band’s official spokesperson, or secret ghostwriter, or somehow responsible for the success of The 59 Sound. I’m not, I’m not, and I wasn’t, but you can definitely count me among the band’s fans. This here is their new video for the title track from the recently released American Slang, which I don’t think is as good as the record before it but definitely not a total clunker, either. And I think this song is one of the ones that prove they’ve still got it. I’d like for all the haters to now place this video into their mouths and straight-up suck it:

For someone who calls GBV the potent embodyment of pure rock and roll… which I would say is somewhat disagreeable… I’d think that you thought the Gaslight Anthem was an energetic anthem for anyone enjoyed music that was both well written and for the common man.
Alas, stick to your Guided by Voices album if that’s what makes you happy. It’ll never make me want to get up and dance or make out with the nearest cute girl like The Gaslight Anthem does.
