Video: Ted Leo – “The Mighty Sparrow” (Live)

In the last two weeks, the bastards at Pitchfork have debuted the official new video for Ted Leo & the Pharmacists‘ “The Mighty Sparrow” (from Leo’s much-beloved-in-Assault-HQ recent disc The Brutalist Bricks), while the awesome people at the AV Club caught the dude covering the timeless Tears For Fears classic “Everybody Wants To Rule The World” for their new feature AV Undercover. We lowly trolls here at Assault HQ don’t have the kind of connections necessary to bring you exclusive new Ted Leo content, but I did find this cool video of him on YouTube, performing “The Mighty Sparrow” solo (w/ electric guitar) at some club somewhere. It’s a five minute video with two and a half minutes of goofy stage banter, but it provides a brief look at what, exactly, what makes Ted Leo so fucking cool. He’s funny, he’s gracious, and he writes insanely catchy punk rock songs that sound like Elvis Costello decided to only make records that sound like Trust for the rest of his career.
