Video: Orianthi – “According To You”
If there’s one thing I like to hear on the radio, it’s a pumped-up jam. What I mostly hear on the radio, though, are idiotic commercials for male enhancement pills and warmed up classic rock masquerading as “alternative.” But once in awhile, something comes along that just knocks me on my ass and makes me say “God bless the radio.” “According To You,” a recent single from Australian rock lady Orianthi, is one such something, and I feel compelled to share it with you now. Apparently this Orianthi character played guitar for Michael Jackson’s final performances and has also jammed with Steve Vai and Carlos Santana. It shows: weirdo guitar squiggles are all over this thing -- they start in earnest after the first chorus because this lady can’t even contain herself until the designated “solo” portion of the track. Awesome. This is like Kelly Clarkson’s “Since U Been Gone” if Kelly Clarkson was actually shredding. Also: if the chorus hit about twice as hard. I know this kind of music isn’t targeted at the usual roughneck demographic that we try to captivate here at Assault, but, as Third World Timmy would say, this shit parties. I think you’ll like it. (The song, it should be noted, is best experienced after three to five warm cans of Bud Light. Also: this track is from Orianthi’s 2009 record Believe, which I will probably review while drunk sometime in the near future.)

I predict this video will get the most hits of any, ever, on this website, mostly from me. The more I watch this, the more amazing it gets. And I really like how they’re stressing the guitar, and the fact that a girl is playing it, going so far as to include the neck of the guitar at the forefront of the video for the entire duration. That is fucking nuts.
